Read me Shpfltnat
This package should contain the following files:
Shpflt - the PostScript downloadable font SHPFLTNAT.
Shpfltnat.bmap - the Macintosh screen version of the font SHPFLTNAT
in sizes 9, 10, 12, 14, 18, 24 and 36.
Shpfltnat.AFM - the Adobe font metrics file for SHPLTNAT for those
applications that require it.
Read me Shpfltnat - The file you are reading.
--------
SHPFLTNAT was created with Altsys Fontographer to meet the need of
incorporation of high-resolution musical symbols into my dissertation,
which is about music (obviously). Originally the only symbols I needed
were a good sharp, flat and natural (hence the name SHPFLTNAT), but I
later added clefs, notes, rests, and a few other symbols for the sake
of completeness. Other musical symbol fonts such as Adobe's Sonata font
draw these characters better, but the leading values for these fonts is
such that trying to use them in a word processing document completely
screws up the line spacing, (turns single spacing into quintuple spacing,
for instance) no matter what. So I created this font for musical charac-
ters that would fit into my dissertation without screwing up things
completely.
The copyright for this font is retained by me, but is distributed free
of charge, with no restrictions on other distribution (providing no
profit is made and providing this file you are reading is included),
with a STRONG suggestion of a contribution of $5 to $10,000 to the
Music Department at Stanford University - c/o Melinda McGee, Braun
Music Center, Stanford University, Stanford, CA 94305. Feel free to
use my name in a sentence.
